New Castle ******** High

November 15, 2007

Why it’s best to name schools after safely dead people instead of companies owned by the fickle alive-and-kicking whose favor we are trying to curry:

New Castle — Four years after Chrysler LLC sold its New Castle plant, school officials have voted to drop the Chrysler name from the city’s high school.

The New Castle Community School Board voted 3-2 Monday night to change the name of New Castle Chrysler High School to simply New Castle High School.

Talk about screwing with a school’s history. There are going to be asterisks for some years on those class-reunion invitations.

Hey – if the corporation that the school was named for pulls out and is no longer contributing to the tax base and therefore helping to finance the schools why should the name remain? Sounds like the board did the right thing, why continue to advertise for a company that no longer is a good corporate citizen of the community?
