Tax and bend

December 12, 2007

What a forgiving bunch Indianapolis taxpayers appear to be:

The public got its first look at the newly renovated Central Library after a two-year delay in the project that ran $50 million over budget.

Hundreds of people Sunday afternoon poured into the downtown library, which was closed in September 2002 in preparation for the construction project. The project cost $103 million after concrete problems led to delays and costs overruns.

Despite the problems, the first patrons were impressed.

“It’s gorgeous. It’s beautiful. You walk right in the atrium, it’s absolutely beautiful,” said Shannon Rubel, who came to the grand opening with her husband and young son.

Thanks for kicking us! Please, may we have another one? (Small reference to “House of Cards,” the great David Mamet movie about, come to think of it, con artists.)

House of cards…you got that one right, and in this case, a STACKED deck of those cards.
