What’s the difference?

I can think of at least a couple.

    Yeah, Kris actually was a better singer/songwriter for starters.

    One difference is that Mr. Zimmerman did it pretty much all by himself. He wrote the tune on an upright piano to go with a 20-page story he’d written earlier, he made the original recording and he had the hit. Rolling Stone magazine ranked it as the greatest song of all time, although it peaked at #2 on the sales charts, behind “Help!” by the Beatles.

    Fred Foster is the lyricist for “Me and Bobby McGee”, Roger Miller was the original recording artist, and Janis Joplin had the #1 hit – only the second time someone reached #1 after they died (Otis Redding did it first.) It’s since been recorded by at least 30 different artists/groups.

    “Me and Bobby McGee” has the lyrics correct here. There ain’t no “ain’t” in the lyrics for “Like a Rolling Stone”.

    “Like A Rolling Stone” came from Bob’s maiden name (Beatty Stone) and provided names for a magazine and rock’s most enduring group of superstars.

    And, of course, “Me and Bobby McGee” has apparently never influenced a Supreme Court ruling. I’m pretty sure it’s been partially responsible for more than one pregnancy, but is that a difference?
