One for two

September 12, 2008

Thank God neither one of them is for cancer:

If there is one war John McCain and Barack Obama agree on, it’s the one against cancer.

Thirty-seven years after President Richard Nixon launched the “war on cancer,” the two U.S. presidential candidates agree on a need to fight the disease that kills more than 560,000 Americans each year.

Good for them. On the other hand, both are for pushing people into national service, which is like asking them to volunteer for the draft. Isn’t it a shame that they were both in the same place but were interviewed separately instead of being engaged in a conversation with each other and the moderators? McCain wants us all to join the military. Obama wants to make government “cool” again. So much for the founding idea that government is a necessary evil.
